Chase and Amber

October 21, 2009

I was ecstatic when one of Chase’s friends contacted me a few weeks ago to see if I would take pictures of Chase proposing to his girlfriend, Amber :) It has a been a dream of mine to capture that moment for a couple. Chase had everything planned out down to the perfect moment. He and Amber would arrive at a private park and take a walk towards a bench overlooking the Newport Harbor. While he got down on one knee, his friends and family were in a boat across the harbor in Newport with a giant sign that read: “Will you marry me? Pretty Please?” (Insert the awwww here :) )
I was so excited to capture this moment for them. Although Chase was nervous, he played it off well. Amber had no idea. She thought they were going to Vegas for the weekend. As friends and family jumped out of the boat, they waited for a brief moment to hear her answer. The answer was of course, Yes! Cheers were shouted even from strangers in the park. Tears were shared and hugs were exchanged, then they floated off into the sunset, yes, it was that romantic!
Chase, all I can say is BRAVO! Your friends have some high expectations to live up to. Amber: You deserve such an incredible man and I am so glad you said yes! I hope you have a blast planning your wedding and thank you for allowing me to capture such a significant moment in your lives. Congratulations you two!

Daniel and Krystal

October 15, 2009

Krystal and I became friends a few years ago after hearing about one another from family members. We hit it off instantly: we were both loud, fun loving girls who both have strong personalities to say the least :) I knew that it would take an incredible man to not only meet Krystal’s expectations, but to match her amazing personality. Krystal is a woman that could easily conquer the world and needed someone that would take that ride with her.
Daniel and her met at Camp Crestview serving as volunteers for the summer. And let me just tell you, it is one of those places that a summer crush could easily turn into love. Surrounded by ancient pine trees, the 1900′s mansion (yes, I said mansion) has decadent stained-windows and a grand fireplace that takes you back to a place where the world was a little slower, a little more romantic. Although, Krystal was cautious about entering into a relationship, you could see that sparkle in her eye. Daniel was the one.
Fast forward a few years, on bended knee, Daniel proposed with a ring that was only fit for a queen. The one he wants to spend the rest of his life with and conquer the world.

A Toast to my Grandmother

October 6, 2009

A toast to my grandmother
A toast to my grandmother by lymessenger featuring 1928 jewelry

Have you ever stopped and smelled the roses, and a flood of memories overpowers you? The other night I was at work and I realized that the smell of original chapstick always reminds me of my grandma, “Gram”. I took a moment to reflect on the things that subconsciously remind me of her: a green clinique compact, rose water, delicate china tea cups, old dusty books any piece of vintage jewelery….the list goes on and on.
Recently, I have been reflecting family dynamics and how they change over time. People move, get married and have children and sooner or later, a weekly dinner becomes replaced by only seeing someone you hold dear once or twice a year. My husband and I love our families and hold our traditions and heritage very close to our hearts, perhaps more than the average young couple. We cherish the moments we get to spend with family hearing stories, sharing recipes and laughing over family photos. Some may call us old fashioned, but we tend to take that as a compliment :)
I attempt to see my family as much as I can and try to take the time to express my love and appreciation for them, but sometimes, it takes a random blog post to truly reveal how I feel and how much they all mean to me. So to start these toasts off, I give you my grandmother. She is the backbone of my family. She tells you how she feels and what she thinks, without beating around the bush, which is rare to find. She is such an example of what a Godly woman should be: an incredible prayer warrior who is devoted to the Word of God. She cherishes her family and whenver we tell her we are blessed to have her, she immediately corrects us and tells us that she is blessed to have us . Gram is never too busy for anyone, whether your family or a complete stranger. I am truly blessed to have her in my life and I am proud to call her my “Gram”.

Scott and Jessica

September 24, 2009

I adore this couple.
Not only are they great friends of my husband and I, but they are amazing to photograph. So when the time came for Jess’ maternity shoot, I was honored to have even been asked :) Another reason why this couple is so amazing is that they planned the entire shoot. I didn’t even know that there was a historic orange grove park! And since I love love love old buildings, I was thrilled that we started in downtown riverside.
Scott and Jess, I am so excited for your future edition to your family: little Oliver.
I know that you two will make terrific parents.

Tyler and Faith

September 20, 2009

Faith and Tyler were married under the beauty of Oregon trees and the bright summer sky. As Faith walked down the isle to Sigur Ros, everyone held their breath in awe, yet Tyler had a huge smile on his face. It was one of the most intimate ceremonies I have seen, yet unique in the fact that as his first act as a husband, Tyler poured Faith a cup of freshly brewed coffee :) Although this may seem odd to you, it’s moments like this that truly make a wedding personal.
So here’s a toast to the both of you:
May your marriage grow stronger through the years and
may you love one another more than this day.
The day you committed to becoming man and wife.
